Alexander College is an Associate degree-granting post-secondary educational institution that provides academic preparation and university transfer courses for both domestic and international students wishing to begin an academic career. www.alexandercollege.ca

Position Description:

The Director of Academic Affairs (DAA) is generally responsible for administering our academic programs. In addition, the DAA manages the Vancouver campus, its staff and faculty. The ideal candidate will have postsecondary administrative experience, be familiar with the B.C. postsecondary system, have experience working with international students, and have experience managing numerous and complex tasks exceptionally well.

Requisite Qualifications:

  • Experience in education administration (minimum 2 years)
  • Experience working as a part of an administrative team
  • Experience working with faculty and students
  • Experienced public speaker
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise faculty (hiring, supervision, evaluation, dismissal, course file management)
  • Determine course schedules, faculty schedules, and student schedules in conjunction with the Director of Operations
  • Conflict and complaint resolution for faculty and students
  • Mediate student appeals and cases involving academic (or other) misconduct
  • Facilitate and monitor staff and faculty professional development
  • Implement data collection systems to determine and improve academic effectiveness
  • Contribute to Annual Reports for external bodies
  • Compile and submit monthly reports for the academic area
  • Secretariat to SASC (senate equivalent)
  • Manage staff and facilities at the Vancouver campus
  • Manage Registrar’s Office
  • Manage Libraries on both campuses
  • Liaise with Marketing on admissibility issues
  • Participate in college marketing activities
  • Identify and implement required changes to college policy
  • Act as signatory for college-related forms
  • Work with department coordinators, the Dean and other Director to promote the college’s focus on student success & institutional effectiveness
  • Assist the President, Vice-Presidents and Dean in their duties at their direction

Position Description:
Our Health and Wellness Counselors provide individual counseling sessions for students on an appointment basis. Free counseling is made available to all students at the college, including students enrolled in the University Preparation course, where successful completion of the curriculum requires meeting with a counselor.

Our counselors conduct clinical needs assessments in accordance with the professional standards and requirements of BCACC, and adhere to the Ethical Code of Conduct. Counseling sessions are conducted in safe and confidential settings within the institution. Counselors establish a positive rapport with clients, listen to personal concerns, recommend treatment plans, and when required, correctly identify the need for crisis intervention.

Counselors are also required, from time to time, to prepare and conduct group workshops on prevalent issues affecting domestic and international students, common and recommended community resources, and effective strategies for healthy living.

Position Category: Contract, part-time (according to the number of appointments and workshops scheduled)

Salary: $65 per counseling session (e.g., 1 hour). $45 per workshop hour (including preparation time and documentation)

Required Qualifications
– Master’s Degree in Counseling (or a related field)

- Registered with BC Association of Clinical Counselors (BCACC)

- Superior oral and written communication skills

- Strong organizational skills and punctuality

The ideal candidate will also have/possess the following:

- 1 or 2 years experience working with international students

- 1 or 2 years experience working with young adults

- Consistently professional comportment

- Strong use of effective communication strategies with multilingual and multicultural clients

- Clear strategies for creating a comfortable and positive atmosphere within counseling sessions

- Experience in clinical assessment and identifying needs for crisis intervention

Tasks and Responsibilities:

- Conduct clinical counseling sessions on an as-needed appointment basis

- Work and communicate effectively with Directors, Instructors, staff, and existing counselor to provide consistent and responsive counseling services

- Encourage clients to participate in additional counseling sessions as needed

- Listen and respond to client concerns and recommend additional health services

- Identify client mental health needs not explicitly expressed

- Manage requests for appointments, maintain a schedule and confirm appointments

- Create and submit a bi-monthly record of students seen (excluding content of sessions)

- Plan, prepare and conduct group workshops on various subjects

 

Other Requirements:

- Ability to travel between campuses in Vancouver and Burnaby

- Other tasks as assigned by the Directors.

Primary Function

To develop and execute international and domestic marketing and recruitment plans for the colleges’ post-secondary, vocational, and language programs.

Accountabilities

Sales and Recruitment

- Attends student fairs

- Researches and reports on new markets.

- Answers information requests from students

- Proposes and manages budgets and ROI; conceives and projects new marketing initiatives

- Meets monthly, quarterly, and annual conversion targets (from web-based and conventional marketing channels).
-Manages student expectations and resolves conflicts or grievances over school policies; reports occurrences to executive level
– Reports positive or negative feedback from marketing materials

- Regularly liaises with counselors and admissions for feedback

- Regularly reports relevant activities
– Strategizes pricing with marketing team, including package prices and promotions (when necessary).

- Gathers Intelligence on customers and competitors, reports to team
– Cross references new marketing opportunities with other colleges, clarifying information about all marketing activities

- Reviews translations and copies

-Documents marketing activities and supplies

Agent Care

- Serves as the first-line of contact for new partners

- Supports existing domestic and overseas partners (Agents, Organizations, Schools) within responsible region(s).

- Develops new domestic and international partnerships with agents, organizations, schools within responsible region(s).

- Trains and advises agencies’ counselors with all skills necessary to sell our programs and services.

- Proposes incentive strategies with partnered agents, organizations, schools and reports to Executive Director.

- Reaches targets and thresholds monthly, quarterly and annually.

- Motivates partnered agencies to reach targets and thresholds monthly, quarterly and annually.

- Examines productivity of agents and manages active and inactive agent lists daily/weekly/monthly.

- Helps agency track LOA’s, payments, and all documents to complete student folders.

- Host incoming agents/guests, plans fam tours, attends education functions/seminars, agent outings, social events, community events/charities.

- Attends agent fairs, internet seminars, chat forums, etc… regularly.

- Proposes advertisement strategies with partnered agencies, organizations, schools.

- Cancels, renews, and modifies agent contract agreements with approval from the Executive Marketing Director.

- Provides agents with all the necessary marketing materials to help sell our programs (i.e. brochures, usb’s, banners, PDF files, agent certificate)
-Coordinates delivery of commission payments to agencies
-Lobbies and liaises with governmental bodies in overseas markets, with significant training and support from executive and advancement levels


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Completion of a Bachelor Degree or Masters Degree from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of work experience in the field of recruitment and marketing. International marketing experience would be considered an asset.

3. Excellent command of the English language, both excellent written and oral, and communication skills. Command of a second language is highly encouraged for the job fields in which the applicant is applying.

4. Demonstrated expert level proficiency in using the entire ‘Windows Office’ suite.

7. Demonstrated experience in working in an international team environment.

8. Applicants must be highly motivated, ethical individuals with strong interpersonal skills.

9. Applicants must be able to travel internationally and must possess valid travel documents.
